Join a few great integers

Numberline is growing, and we're looking for a few great "integers" to join the team — practitioners who bring real Zero Trust experience and a vendor-neutral point of view.

CURRENTLY OPEN ROLES

Senior Zero Trust Advisor

Part-Time

Numberline Security is a specialized Zero Trust advisory and training firm founded by industry practitioners and co-authors of Zero Trust Security: An Enterprise Guide. We help enterprises across industries define, plan, and execute effective Zero Trust security programs. Our work is vendor-neutral, practitioner-led, and grounded in what actually gets implemented rather than what presents well.

About this Role

We’re looking for a senior Zero Trust practitioner to work alongside our principals on client engagements. This is a delivery role, not a research one. You’ll help drive workshops, hold your own in the conversation, analyze what comes out of them, and help write the assessments and roadmaps that clients act on.

You will not be sent in alone, and you won’t be handed someone else’s slides to present. You’ll be the second experienced pair of hands on real engagements with real enterprise security teams, and the quality of what we deliver will visibly depend on you.

What You’ll Own

Client Engagement Delivery

  • Work alongside a Numberline principal on client engagements, primarily virtually with occasional engagement-dependent travel
  • Contribute substantively to discovery interviews, workshops, and architecture review sessions. We expect you to participate rather than just observe.
  • Facilitate working sessions with client security, identity, cloud, infrastructure, and application teams

Assessment and Analysis

  • Conduct current-state Zero Trust maturity assessments, using ZTMM+, Numberline’s extended version of the CISA Zero Trust Maturity Model
  • Inventory and map existing client initiatives to Zero Trust capabilities and controls, identifying gaps, redundancies, and dependencies
  • Analyze assessment data and turn it into findings a client can act on, prioritized by risk rather than by maturity score

Written Deliverables

  • Draft assessment reports, gap analyses, roadmaps, and repeatable architectural patterns to a standard a CISO will read and use
  • Produce clear, structured documents from workshop output and interview notes

Client Communication

  • Speak directly and credibly with client stakeholders and subject matter experts
  • Support executive-level presentations and readouts. Numberline principals will be the primary face of engagements, but you will get “airtime”.

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years in enterprise security or IT infrastructure, including 3–5 years focused specifically on Zero Trust, including architecture, identity, network segmentation, or secure access
  • Background as an Enterprise Security Architect, Zero Trust Architect, or a comparable hands-on role
  • Working command of the CISA Zero Trust Maturity Model and NIST SP 800-207. These are requirements, not preferences
  • Familiarity with the wider Zero Trust guidance landscape, including Department of War (formerly DoD) Zero Trust guidance and NSA Zero Trust guidance
  • Demonstrable ability to produce client-ready written deliverables. We will ask for a writing sample during the interview process.
  • Able to hold your own in a workshop with an enterprise security team, including when the room disagrees with you. We will ask for a relevant presentation during the interview process.
  • Vendor-neutral instincts. Our recommendations are product-agnostic and our credibility depends on staying that way
  • Comfortable working independently in a lean, high-trust environment with minimal hand-holding
  • A defined mental model of how you will and will not utilize AI in your work. We rely on AI to support and accelerate our work, but we do not use it to replace our thinking. We expect you to abide by this approach.
  • CCZT or a comparable Zero Trust certification is a plus, not a requirement

This is a part-time engagement of up to approximately 25 hours per week, varying with client demand. Work is primarily virtual, with occasional engagement-dependent travel. The engagement can be structured either as part-time employment or as an independent contract, depending on your circumstances. Compensation and terms are negotiable based on experience
