Announcing Our New Training Course: A Practical Approach to Zero Trust

We’re thrilled to announce the release of something we’ve been working on for a while: a self-paced training course called A Practical Approach to Zero Trust: Part 1: Planning.

This course represents a distillation of the approach we’ve refined through years of Zero Trust consulting engagements, packaged into a format that lets security professionals and enterprise leaders work through it on their own schedule, at their own pace.

Why We Built This

Through our consulting work and conference workshops, we’ve had hundreds of conversations with security professionals who share a common frustration: they understand the value of Zero Trust, and their organizations want to move forward, but they don’t have a clear, practical path to get started. There’s no shortage of Zero Trust thought leadership and vendor marketing out there, but there’s a real gap when it comes to structured, step-by-step guidance for the planning work that needs to happen before any technology decisions get made.

That planning work is exactly what this course covers.

What’s Inside

The course walks you through the first two phases of our Zero Trust Blueprint: Assessment and Strategy,  across 13 video lessons and 4 hands-on exercises. You’ll learn how to evaluate your organization’s readiness for a Zero Trust initiative, assess your current maturity using ZTMM+ (our enhanced version of the CISA Zero Trust Maturity Model), build a compelling Zero Trust Vision for stakeholders, and define a structured Zero Trust Program.

Every lesson is tied to a concrete step in the Blueprint, and every exercise produces an output you can use for real. We use a fictional enterprise called ACME throughout to illustrate realistic scenarios and results, so you can see the reasoning behind each decision, not just the decision itself.

The total video runtime is about 2.5 hours, plus additional time for the exercises. It’s designed to be accessible whether you’re deep in the weeds of security architecture or leading a Zero Trust initiative from a more strategic role.

Built on Real-World Experience

We want to be clear about what makes this different from other Zero Trust training. This isn’t an academic overview or a vendor pitch. The Blueprint methodology in this course is the same one we use in our advisory engagements with enterprises. The exercises use the same tools. The ZTMM+ model is the same one our clients use. We’ve pressure-tested every element of this approach in real enterprise environments, and we’re confident it works.

This release is Part 1 of a two-part series. Part 2 will cover the Roadmap and Execution phases of the Zero Trust Blueprint, taking you from strategic planning into implementation, including access policy development, technology and process roadmapping, and the metrics and checkpoints needed to keep your initiative on track. We’re actively working on Part 2 and will share more details soon.
